What is Laser - Difference between light & laser

Monochromaticity: refers to single colour of light with a specific wavelength for Lasers which is not the case for any non-laser lights & LEDs which may look of single colour but have different wavelengths

Coherence: refers to the inherent synchronicity of Laser radiation. In Laser the emitted light beam is temporally coherent (photons in phase with troughs & crests of each wave) & spatially coherent (photons unidirectional & in phase over long distances. Simple lights & LEDs lack coherence

Collimation: it refers to parallelity of the light beams, a property of Laser whereas the light devices or LEDs do not emit parallel beams. Highly collimated beams give a small spot size over a large distance. Small amount of divergence 3-10o is seen in diode based Lasers and the power output of Lasers is measured at the point of emission of Laser beam and not further.

Polarization: refers to the orientation of light waves in a single plane in all Lasers and thus the fluctuations or vibrations in their electrical fields occur in a single direction. In lights and LEDs, this orientation is at random into different planes
